Step by Step guide to setup Active Directory on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008R2

Procedure to install Active directory on windows server 2008 and 2008R2

First step to assign Static IP Address along with the DNS ( it is required to assign DNS to install Active directory )

If the DNS Server is not available then you must to create and configure DNS Server while installation of Active Directory ( Server IP Address and DNS IP Address Should be Sthe ame if you planning to install DNS Server )

Next follow below steps one by one. :

1) Click on Start Menu > Server Manager > Select the Roles option > then click on Add Roles option
2) From the roles list check mark on "Active Directory Domain Services" and click on Next

3) Review the Installation and click on Next

4) Review the Confirmation and click on Install

5) Installation wizard will take couple of Minutes to complete the installation ( After the Installation successfully completed we will need to Restart the Server Machine )

6) After Restart the machine > Open "Server Manager" and check the Summary option then click on the link of "Run the Active Directory Domain Service Installation Wizard (dcpromo.exe)"

7) once the dcpromo wizard open, kindly follow the steps as below:

8) On the installation page click on Next twice to continue the setup

9) On the "Choose a Deployment Configuration" click on Create a new domain in a new forest > Click on Next

10) Provide FQDN of the forest root domain E.g. "answers-free.com" then click on Next

11) Select Forest functional level : Windows server 2008 and click on Next

12) Select DNS server > Click on Next

13) Click on "Yes" to continue the installation

14) Check Database Folder path and Modify the path or continue with default > Click on Next

15) Enter Password for "Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password"

16) Review the Summary page and Click on Next

17) Installation wizard start the installation and it will take few Minutes to complete.

18) After the Reboot kindly login to the Domain and insure to login as below :

User Name : DomainName\Administrator
Password : xxxxxxxxxx

In Second Step You Can Start Directly From command ( Start Menu > Run > dcpromo ) and follow above steps from 7 to 18 __________________________________________________________________

This Virtual machine appears to be in use - Take Ownership

Steps to resolve Virtual machine issue when you attempt to run and its giving an error to take a ownership or Cancel to avoid damaging it.

Error as below :

Issue :-

This virtual machine appears to be in use. If this virtual machine is already in use, press the "Cancel" button to avoid damaging it. If this virtual machine is not in use, press the "Take Ownership" button to obtain ownership of it.

Cause :

someone try to run same VM machine image in another profile while running in one.
while shutdown VM, didn't remove temp files
wrong way to run the VM on different different profile

Solution :

Open VM Image destination folder path and check ".lck" files or Folders is available or Not
if available then kindly delete the same
the issue will be resolve after removing the ".lck" folders

Windows could not start the windows Firewall service on local computer

Issue : Machine unable to access over the network due to Windows Firewall Service Stopped Working. and getting below error while starting the service

Cause : There are several causes to stopped this service automatically

it might be user permission issue on the service OR registry key changes OR dependency service are stopped

Solution :

Open registry editor using command - Go To the Run > regedit > Browse below registry key > HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess
Right click on SharedAccess and click on Permissions
click on Add Button and add "NT Service\MpsSvc" then click on OK ( Select Local Computer not a Domain while searching above user )
Assign Full Control for this user and click on OK

Restart the System and start the Windows firewall Service now, it should be working properly.

Outlook 2010 getting hang or working very slow while send and receiving the Emails

Steps to resolve this as follows :

Symptoms :

Outlook Getting hang - app hang error
Working very slow while performing the send & receive the emails

Cause : Telephony Service getting trouble to perform outlook normal

Solution :

Go To The Run > Type Services.msc and Hit ENTER to open services.
Select Telephony service and right click to open proprieties
select Log On tab > and change the Log on as: Local System account and Apply OK

Right Click on Telephony Service and Click to STOP ( You can STOP either Disabled the Service )

Network Unauthenticated 2 icon showing on Network card, Limited connectivity

Network disconnected automatically and showing "Network Unauthenticated" on the "Local Area Connection"

Follow below steps to get the issue resolve :

Steps: 1

Go To The services.msc > Right Click on "Network Location Awareness" and Open Properties > in General tab > change Startup Type as "Automatic (Delayed Start)" and Restart the Services
Follow same procedures for "Network List Services" ( Dependency on above service)

Steps: 2

Go To the Command Prompt > and type below commands & hit Enter after each and every command

netsh
winsock
reset
Once the winsock reset you Must be Restart the System

Steps: 3

Try to Enable/Disabled Network Card

Steps: 4

Right Click on Network icon and Open Network & sharing center > click on Change Adapter settings > Right Click on Local Area Connection and open Properties > Click on configure button > Select Power Management Tab > and Unchecked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power (Same for all option available in below)
Restart the System/Computer

Steps: 5

Unjoin/Remove the workstation/machine from the Domain then delete All computer account from the Active Directory and rejoin or re-welcome in Domain

Steps: 6

E.g. - If the Domain name is "CYBTEST.COM" and you find the name on the Network Card is changed as "CYBTEST.COM 2" then edit and change as "CYBTEST.COM" in Registry as follows.

Open registry editor using regedit command > click on Edit > Find > type CYBTEST.COM 2
Find all changed entries and edit as normal "CYBTEST.COM"

Steps: 7 ( Change the NIC Dynamic port using batch file or below command line )
